We’re delighted to announce that one of our Holmfirth students has achieved their Silver Award in our YSMS Coach Mentoring Programme! 👏
Our Coach Mentoring Programme is something we’re particularly proud of. Students who have reached the minimum belt requirement and demonstrate the aptitude, attitude and potential to coach are invited to take part.
It’s not simply about putting someone in front of a class. Our students are gradually developed as coaches, gaining experience, responsibility and a deeper understanding of what it takes to teach others.
🏅 BRONZE – 20 hours
• 20 hours of supervised coaching experience
• Create and deliver an appropriate class warm-up
• Begin developing confidence and understanding as a coach
🥈 SILVER – 50 hours
• 50 hours of supervised coaching experience
• Deliver their previously planned warm-up
• Make appropriate adaptations depending on the students attending
• Demonstrate that they understand why changes may be needed
🥇 GOLD – 100 hours
• 100 hours of supervised coaching experience
• Create a full class plan
• Demonstrate a much deeper understanding of class structure, coaching and adapting sessions to suit the students
And throughout every stage, there’s another important part of the programme.
Our developing coaches spend time watching and learning from our instructors delivering classes, giving them the opportunity to see different coaching methods, understand how instructors manage a class and demonstrate what they have learned and understood through their own coaching.
This is about much more than collecting hours or awards. It’s about developing the next generation of coaches, building confidence, responsibility, communication skills and leadership – while giving students a real opportunity to give something back to the club.
